STARscanner
The STARscanner is an eye-safe, noncontact, class 1 laser scanning system that allows practitioners to scan the baby’s head in 1.5 seconds. This is the most current alternative and less traumatic to casting the head with plaster that can take 15-30 minutes. The STARscanner utilizes 3-D technology for fabrication of custom cranial remolding orthosis designed to treat infants for positional plagiocephaly and brachycephaly. The STARscanner is the only laser system available worldwide designed with Class 1 lasers-the safest kind to acquire the scan of your baby’s head. Our STARscanner is one of sixty in use worldwide and the only one in Massachusetts.

STARband
STARband is custom-made based on a baby’s unique head measurements taken through Orthomerica’s STARscanner. The custom molded helmet is made of 3/16” copolymer plastic with a ½” foam interface.
The headband is worn 23 hours a day, channeling head growth by applying constant, gentle pressure on protruding head areas while leaving room for growth in depressed ones. The interior is modified often to account for changes. Head shape problems are not life threatening and are correctable if treated early enough. Lack of treatment can lead to developmental delays, visual impairment and misaligned ears, eyes and jaw.
